In an interesting move, the chairman of the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission made it known publicly late last month that his department was ready and willing to regulate online poker should the legislature and governor enact such a law.
While an online poker bill passed the Iowa Senate last March, it was tabled in the more conservative House and Iowa Governor Terry Branstad has not committed to supporting it, leaving the bill’s ultimate fate as yet undetermined. The outcome of the stalled legislative process, and Governor Branstad’s decision (should he be forced to make one), should be of interest to all gaming attorneys and those interested in Internet poker law in general.
