Marketers of Weight-Loss Products Targeted by FTC

blogpostpic4-24Despite the Federal Trade Commission’s (“FTC”) recent focus on unsolicited telemarketing, it has not backed off in its effort to reduce deceptive marketing campaigns, generally.  As we previously detailed on this blog, in October 2013, the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) filed a complaint against several sellers of human chorionic gonadotropin (“HCG”), alleging that deceptive marketing techniques were used to market the drug as a dietary supplement. It appears that in 2014, the FTC intends to ramp up its investigation and enforcement efforts even further against marketers of weight-loss products.

New Initiative against Weight-Loss Marketers

On January 7, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. EST, the FTC will announce an initiative against deceptive advertising in the weight-loss product space. The details of the FTC’s initiative are unclear at this point, but the announcement will be streamed live on the FTC’s website.
